http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/04/ukraine-conflict-vladimir-putin_n_4895257.html. DUE 10 March 2014. Why is Putin in Ukraine? What is the U.S. response? Why? What action should the U.S. take? Why is this action in our best interest??

  1. Russian President Vladimir Putin is in Ukraine because he believes that Moscow reserves the right to use all means to protect Russians in Ukraine. It is believed that former Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych sent a letter to Putin asking him to use the Russian military to restore law and order in his country, Reuters reported. Though Putin denies having any troops in Ukraine, and insisted that the troops in the Crimea who were wearing green uniforms without insignia and driving unmarked vehicles were not Russian. The U.S response is to send a $1 billion aid package in energy subsidies to Ukraine to help prevent an economic catastrophe. I think that the action that the US has taken so far have been appropriate, it is our best interest not to get too involved and release tensions, because if tensions rise it could lead to a war and also because Russia provides many resources for many Western countries.

  2. Putin is in Ukraine because there are Russians there that have the right to be helped by them. In other words, "Russia dismissed talks of sanctions and said it was only trying to protect its interests and those of Russians in Ukraine. " However, Russian President Vladimir Putin says that there are no Russian troops in Ukraine. The US response is to help them from suffering an economic instability; to do this they sent a one billion dollar aid package to Ukraine. President Obama stepped in and as stated, "President Barack Obama described the Russian advance as a violation of international law, and called on Congress to approve an aid package for the new Ukrainian government." By helping them, the US is preventing other countries from getting in trouble as well and also preventing any troubles in the economy from happening. The US is taking it steady by doing only this and should keep it this way because it is in our best interest so that no further conflicts could occur from getting "too" involved. As stated in the article, "Putin also noted that sanction attempts would backfire on the West." So it is important to stay at our own base so no problems come back at us in a negative manner.

  3. President Vladimir Plutin of Russia is in Ukraine because he believes that Moscow reserves the right to use all means to protect Russians in Ukraine. During a news conference on tuesday, Plutun described the recent turmoil in Ukraine as an anti-constitunal coup, and said that while the Ukranian parliament was legimate, acting President Olexander Turchynov was not. The U.S. response is to help them from being economically ruin sending a $1 billion aid package in energy subsidies. I think the action that the U.S. have take in helping and in keeping things under control. It is in our best interests because it should be able to prevent wars between Russia and Ukraine. In another word, things will be in peace for a little while, which will prevent any conflicts.

  4. President Putin is in Ukraine because he feels that Russia has the right to use all means necessary to protect Russians who are currently in Ukraine. Putin has said that former Ukraine leader Viktor Yanukovych sent Putin a letter stating his need for Russia's help in order to bring back "law and order in the country". The U.S response is to help Ukraine by sending over a billion dollar aid package in the form of subsidies. I believe that for the sake of the United States we should not get too involved between Russia and Ukraine. We need to protect our citizens and the last thing we need to do is get in another war that does not entitle us to be there. We do not need to put a target on our back.

  5. President Vladimir Putin visited the Ukraine because he believes strongly that Moscow reserves the right to use all means to protect fellow Russians in the Ukraine. During a news conference on Tuesday, Putin described the recent turmoil in that has occurred in the Ukraine as an anti-constitutional coup, and said that while the Ukrainian parliament was legitimate, acting President Olexander Turchynov was not. The U.S. is responding by helping them from being economically ruined, this is done by sending a $1 billion aid package in energy subsidies. In my opinion, this action that the U.S. has taken in helping and in keeping things under control is in our best interest. This is because it should be able to prevent wars between Russia and Ukraine. In other words, things will be at peace and no conflict will arise, which will prevent any conflicts from occuring.

  6. President Putin is in Ukraine because there are Russians in Ukraine that have the rights to be protected. It is said that Ukrainian leader, Viktor Yanukovych, sent a message to Putin saying that he wants to restore law and order in his country by using Russian's militia power. However, Putin claims that there are no Russian troops in Ukraine. The U.S response is sending them over a billion dollar aid to package to Ukraine to help them from economic instability. However, I do not agree with this idea because we already have our own problems with our own debt and we should not get involved with other countries. For the sake of our country, it's best not to pick sides and create a bigger conflict. Putin even says that sanctions backfired will be on the West so we should not risk anything

  7. President Putin is in Ukraine because he feels that Russia has the right to use all means to protect the Russians that are in Ukraine. Putin said that the former Ukraine leader has sent him a letter asking for Russia’s help to bring back order in the country. The U.S response is to help Ukraine by sending them an aid package in the form of subsidies with a cost of over one billion dollars. I believe that the United States should not get too involved in this situation since it is not our problem. If we look like we are favoring one country over the other than it may cause problems for us with that country in the future. The U.S. needs to protect its citizens and putting the country in a situation where it doesn’t belong could lead to a war in the future.

  8. Putin went to Ukraine to protect the Russians that are there and his own interests and influence. The U.S response to this was a sanction because Obama feels what he is doing is against international law. The only action the U.S should be taking is to ask the UN to help in the matter instead of causing anymore tension with Russia. This action is in our best interest because if we try to deal with Putin directly it will result in a huge war.

  9. Putin is in Ukraine because he wants to protect all Russians that are in Ukraine. The U.S. response was to approve an aid package for the new Ukrainian government. Obama feels that this is a violation of international law. The United States also suspended military ties to Russia and prepared to impose sanctions on high-level Russian officials involved in the military occupation of Crimea. The U.S. should try to help to the best of its ability, without getting to involved because it could then lead to issues with the US. This action is in our best interest because we have to keep our citizens safe and not try to start a war that shouldn't be started. We shouldn't just sit and do nothing about it, but we shouldn't get overly involved, it's between Russia and Ukraine.

The United States also suspended military ties to Russia and prepared to impose sanctions on high-level Russian officials involved in the military occupation of Crimea. The United States should leave the situation alone completely. As a country, we have our own debt problems and sending a $1.5 billion aid package is just making it worse. It also has nothing to deal with the United States, and there is a risk; as Putin did state, the plan could backfire.

As of now, the U.S. isn't in the best shape and shouldn't be lending out money that could be used towards the debt we have.

We need to stay at our own base and not get involved in anything or start anything. We don't want to create a war that would have nothing to do with the U.S. But giving a helping shouldn't hurt or be negative towards us. The U.S. did what was necessary.

  14. Putin is in Ukraine because he wants to protect Russians located in Ukraine, but reserves the rights to use any means necessary. The U.S response is providing aid to Ukraine as Russia is violating international law. The U.S also suspended military ties to Russia and has announced that unless Russia falls back, sanctions will be placed on them. The U.S should continue to follow their current actions and place sanctions on Russia, and provide aid to Ukraine, as we cannot allow Russia to overthrow Ukraine in an attempt to "protect Russian citizens." I believe that these actions are in our best interest as a way to economically stop Russia from continuing their current actions and not have to combat Russian forces.

I think the US should consult with the UN before taking any action at all. This is in our best interest because we dont want to get ourselves in trouble without the proper backup.

Not getting involved is in our best interest and now we should just stay in our place.

  18. U.S. is doing this because they dont want Russia to take them over. I think the U.S is making good decision considering if they choose otherwise it would probably cause chaos, or a war. either or .

I think that the actions we took have been appropriate regarding the situation. I think that we should continue to work with both the Ukraine and Russia to prevent a government overthrow and a war, and maybe restore peace and tranquility to Eastern Europe.

I believe that the U.S. shouldn't get to involved with this but we have to, we should try to do everything with peace. This action is in our best interest because we don't want to get involved in a war because that would be very chaotic and unnecessary.

  22. Vladimir Putin is in Ukraine because he presumes that Russia has the right to do whatever is necessary to protect the Russians that are already in Ukraine. Putin also states that the former Ukrainian leader asked for Putin's help to restore the tumoil in his country. The US responded by announcing a $1 billion aid package in energy subsidies to Ukraine because Obama felt that the Russians violated international laws. I believe that this was the right decision because it will help to ease the turmoil. Not only that, but we won't be fully involved in the conflict.

  23. The reason for President Putin being in Ukraine is due to the fact that there are Russians in Ukraine, and he believes that they have the rights to be protected. All of this started by the formal leader of Ukraine asking help from Putin. Putin denies his troops being in Ukraine, and President Obama saw Russia's advance as a violation of international law and called on Congress to approve an aid package for the new Ukrainian government. The U.S response to the situation, sent a billion dollar aid to package to Ukraine in order to help them economically. I think that the action that the U.S. took is helping Ukraine. It is not only up to U.S. to help troubling countries, but taking the first steps is fine. Other countries have to aid in the situation as well. We will not want to get in any more trouble, but hopefully this whole tension between Russian and the Ukraine will not get us too involved and backfire.

The U.S response is to send a $1 billion aid package in energy subsidies to Ukraine in order to help prevent an economic tragedy. I actually think that the US should take no action, because to go in and try to intervene, for the benefit of us, would contradict the United States of America as a whole. America, the land of the free, was formed based on freedom, the same way we fought for our freedom from the british. We are the land of the free. Also, would we allow Pakistan to come in and aid us with our economic troubles?

The US responded by sending 1 billion dollar aid package. I don't believe that we should've been involved, considering that 1 billion dollars is coming out of our money, and we are in debt. We also shouldn't have got involved putting ourself in danger with such a serious situation. It is unnessecary, we shouldn't have gotten ourselves involved because of the dangers that could come with this. Even though we were just trying to help, we should help our country out first before creating more debt.

The U.S wants to send $1 billion dollars aid package in energy subsidies to Ukraine. By doing so, the U.S will help them from crashing economically. I believe that the U.S does right in helping them because now they will be in debt to us. whenever we need something they will have to help us and we can sign certaain treaties to protect either side. plus by helping them economically, we can prevent a war between them which will require deeper involvement.

  30. Russian President Vladimir Putin is in Ukraine to "defend" the Russian civilians who live there. To Putin they are entitled to be protected from this "anti-constitutional coup" in the words of Vladimir himself. But i feel he is just doing this because of the letter that the former Ukraine president wrote him. The U.S.'s response to this action would be Obama cutting off ties with Russia as of a way to punish them for interfering with business that doesn't pertain to their country. Obama did this as a warning for Russia to understand the consequences of intervening. Obama also knew that Putin would back off if such a move was made. The U.S. should have taken this action because we are trying to keep the water simmering rather than boiling. The action is in our best interest because this will calm tensions of neighboring countries to not become involved as well in future disagreements/wars.

  31. Vladimir Putin is in Ukraine because he believes that he should be there to "protect" the Russian citizens that reside in the Ukraine. This was seen by Obama as a violation of international law after the former president go the Ukraine,Viktor Yanukovych, to use the Russian troops to restore order and peace among the citizens. After this Obama asked Congress for aid to help the Ukraine restore a new government and fix it's economy with a package amount of around $1 billion dollar aid package to the Ukraine for these purposes. I believe that the US does have it's duties in helping those who are our allies but giving them that huge amount of money doesn't really seem like a good idea to me. We are already trillions of dollars in debt which has gotten into plenty of sticky situations. I think being involved is in out interest to protect our economic ties with Europe and keeping that would mean interfering with this situation so that Putin doesn't take over all of Europe or a good amount of it. I believe that if we didn't step in then other communist leaders would think that it's okay to do that to other countries and just go in and take them over. So to sum it up I think we should help and be involved but not too involved to drag us into conflict or anything like that.
