  1. The violence in Yemen has increased substantially since the Houthis rebels seized control of Sanaa in September. The Houthis over ran the presidential palace in Yemen, causing President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and his cabinet to Resign on January 22. This has resulted in the deterioration of Yemen security, which has led the United States, the United Kingdom, and France to withdraw from their Yemen embassies to maintain the safety of their representatives. The UK Prime Minister for the Middle East, Tobias Ellwood, said, "Regrettably we now judge that our embassy staff and premises are at increased risk," shortly after the U.S. announced that it would suspend its proceedings at its embassy at Yemen’s capital. It has been noted that “unilateral actions” have “disrupted the political transition” to democracy in Yemen, resulting in the increased risk of violence against Yemenis and those of the “diplomatic community in Sanaa.” However, rebel leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi denounced Western fears of deteriorating security in Yemen, insisting that they were baseless. Mr. Houthi warned that "the interests of those who bet on chaos and want to hurt the economy and security of the people will suffer," specifically referring to the Sunni-ruled states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, who have accused the Houthis of a "coup". A “coup” is a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government. The Houthis’ plan, with regard to the current structure of Yemini Parliament, is to dissolve, then replace the parliament with an interim assembly that would elect a five-member presidential council to govern for a transitional period of up to two years. They also have proposed a “partnership” with the main parties in Yemen. The new Rebel leader is Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

  5. Ever since September of last year, Yemen has been under control of the Houthis rebels. Not only have the US and UK governments withdrawn diplomatic staff, but the French embassy also plans to close this Friday. These changes from foreign countries come about from the UN and its attempts to, " broker talks between political factions and Shia rebels who control Sanaa and dissolved parliament last week". The UK Prime Minister in the middle east, Tobias Ellwood declared, “Regrettably we now judge that our embassy staff and premises are at increased risk". A coup is defined as a, "sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government", and the Sunni-ruled states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, have accused the Houthis of such. On January 22 the President, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, and his cabinet resigned after rebels kept him trapped in his house. Houthi wishes to replace Parliament with an assembly that would hold five members of a presidential council in order to govern Yemen during its transitional period. Meanwhile, the new rebel leadership belongs to Abdul Malik al-Houthi. In his address on Tuesday, Mr. Houthi proposed a "partnership" in return for giving up on an ideology "that excludes the other".

The goal of the Houthis is to prevent a power vacuum in Yemen. Abdul Malik is the new rebel leader. It's unfortunate that there are people so desperate for power that they endanger the lives of others. All this news attention is EXACTLY what they want. They feed off of this energy and we gladly give it to them. The media is instilling fear in citizens but in the long run is it worth it?? No. Ebola? Mike brown? You won't hear about this a month down the road so why stress over it? They keep telling us "breaking news" but it's nothing new! We have endured far more than this. And my question is, so the people are "informed", what next? They don't do anything! These political wars are not ours to fight. The news should press for solutions instead of scaring people. Come on, how much longer are we going to accept the news we are fed by the media. Propaganda.
