Costco Tops List Of Best Companies For High School Grads

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/05/costco-career-opportunities-best_n_5766668.html. DUE 15 September 2015. Why are these companies being chosen as "best" companies for whom to work? Which company would you choose to work for assuming you did not have a HS diploma? Why?

  1. These companies are being chosen the "best" companies to work for because of the way the employees are being treated. For example, Costco is ranke number one because of the pay being above minimum wage. Also roughly 9 out of 10 employees have company-sponsored health care and pay is much higher than other competitors.
Assuming I do not have a high school diploma, I would most likely work at Chipotle, which is tied for second in career opportunities eating. I would work there because the pay rate is above minimum wage, and there is also higher opportunity to go higher up in the company without a high school diploma.

  2. There are not many good places to work for if your highest level of education is high school. However, Costco was chosen to be the “best” company to work for as a high school graduate because they not only treat their employees well but, they also pay above the national minimum wage. Along with that, nine out of ten employees that work at Costco are provided with a form of health care. It was also reported that less than six percent of their employees are annually replaced by other people. Costco isn't the only place that is good to work for. Whole Foods, Chipotle, Publix and Nordstrom are all in the running for second place. Each of these companies treats their employees well by paying above the minimum wage. It is a known fact that happier employees lead to happier customers. These companies are well aware of this and treating their employees well will make their company name look better. Out of the list, I would want to work for Costco because they care for their employee’s happiness and success rate. If I couldn't work at Costco, I would want to work for Starbucks because they pay well and they also provide college education and health care. It would be convenient for me, if I didn't go to college, to work for Starbucks because I could earn a free college education while earning money to help save for the future.

  3. I believe these companies are being chosen as the "best" companies because of the convenience it gives to the youth. Graduating from high school is a milestone and getting a degree from college is another. If you know that you can be in a job that pays well without a degree that is great to so many people. These companies are helpful to a handful of high school graduates. If I could work at one of these companies it would be Nordstrom. I just have this thing for retail stores. Helping people is my thing. It would be great to know I am given benefits as a graduate looking for work.

  4. These companies are being chosen as the "best" companies for whom to work due to their exceeding the average minimum wage for people without diplomas. This paired with other benefits such as their healthcare plans and promotion rates, make companies such as Costco and WholeFoods competitive against other corporations for people without diplomas. If I had to choose a company to work for had I not received my high school diploma, I would choose Whole Foods. My dad is a department manager at the WholeFoods on University and so I have a firsthand look at the benefits WholeFoods offers its employees. I am also aware of the timeline my dad has worked there and the amount of promotions he has received within that time that has gotten him to where he is. Through WholeFoods he also got a second job as a private chef for Ed Jovanovski. He has no high school diploma, but he receives pay that puts us at the top of the middle class. For this, and other statistical reasons mentioned in this article, I would choose WholeFoods.

  5. There companies that are listed in the article are the companies that are chosen to be the "best" companies to work at or to apply for a job if you only have a high school diploma because they pay their employees really well and they provide health care. Well only Costco provide health care for their employees. Also, they are easy jobs to get into and to climb up the ladders if they stay long enough, they could even be manager. They will go pretty far in these jobs. With these types of jobs, they don't need to learn anything more in college because everything is basic and they can learn from their coworkers, everything is simple and easy. The more they work the more they will learn and become good at it. The company I would work at if I only have my high school diploma would be Costco or Nordstorm. I would work at Costco because they pay their employees really well and they provide healthcare. Also, its a really simple job, and one day I could be manager or even boss of the store. I would be happy working at Costco because everyone there would be happy and have a smile on their face. I also picked Nordstorm because its kind of like Macy or JCPenny combined with other shoe stores, so I could get discounts from it and they also pay a higher wage. I would work at any of the places listed on the article because I could get benefits and other good things from it. But Costco and Nordstorm would be my top two choice. Also, Starbucks provide a full tuition for college, so you don't even need to pay a penny of it. So yeah, many of the companies have really good benefits.

  6. These companies are being the best companies chosen to work for because they treat their employees fairly. Costco is an amazing company to work for because they pay well above minimum wage, which people without degrees higher than a high school diploma usually need to raise families and other expenses. Costco also provides healthcare which almost all employees sign up for. Another thing is that Costco is really kind to their employees by allowing them to move up in ranks as a manger or warehouse owner. I think that this is a really nice thing because many of the people who work at Costco, especially those with only a high school diploma need that ranking so they can earn more money. If I were to choose a company to work for it would have to be either Costco or Starbucks. I would choose Costco because of all the benefits that the company offers. I think it would be a great place to work for and I would feel happy and comfortable. Another reason I would choose Costco is that the company allows its employees that start at the register to become managers. If I became a manager, it would be ideal for me if I needed to support a family and if I needed that money so I did not have to live in poverty. If I decided that I wanted to go to college, I would choose Starbucks because it offers free college education.

  7. These companies are the best to work for because they provide great benefits and treat their customers fairly. They also pay a decent wage that their employees can actually live on. Unlike companies such as Walmart, that don't pay their employees well and don't provide them with much benefits. If I did not have a high school diploma, I would choose Costco to work for. I would choose them because they pay over the minimum wage and most of their employees receive health care. Also, there is a great chance to be promoted. the company usually picks people who are already employees to fill positions, instead of hiring new workers. These great qualities make Costco's worker turn over rate very low because the employees are happy working at their establishment.

  8. These companies are the best to work for because of employee treatment and benefits. For example, Costco was chosen as the “best” company to work for as a high school graduate because they treat their employees well and they also pay above the national minimum wage. These companies all have room for growth in positions and salary. If i had to pick one of these places to work it would defiantly be Costco for many different reasons. One reason is I'm familiar with the business they run because of previous experiences. Also they have great benefits and show room for advancement so I wouldn't be at a dead end job. Another reason is they have great customer service and I think the customers would treat the employees like humans because Costco takes care of them. If i had to pick another place it would be Wells Fargo because I'm actually interested in finance and money services.

  9. Costco is considered one of the best companies because they treat their employees well with room to grow in the company. Other reasons include they pay above minimum wage and their pay is higher than Wal-Mart owned Sam's Club. Employee turnover is less than 6 percent, including majority of the employees have company-sponsored health care. I would work for Publix because its closer to my house and pays a good amount of money, and doesn't require a High School Diploma either. Publix is also tied for second in the best companies list.

  10. After reading this article, the reason being why these companies are being chosen the "best" companies for whom to work for is due to the fact of work advantages. Even if you only have a high school diploma listed as your highest education, that wouldn't be a problem. For example Costco being the number one company, provides company sponsored health care which has a huge advantage. Another thing to look at is the fact of having a higher pay than the expected minimal wage. The company I would choose to work for assuming I don't have a high school diploma would be Costco because for them to be number one definitely means something in my eyes. It shows that even without having a high school diploma they will treat you the same way and have you covered when it comes to money and health care advantages.

  11. With health care being a major problem in this country, jobs that offer some coverage it appeals to the employee. Along with health benefits, companies that pay above the minimum wage make them the “best” companies for those whose highest level of education is high school. When the environment of a company is happy and light, customers want to come back. The more assets a job offers, the happier the employee is which in turn helps the company make profit.
Places like Costco, Whole Foods, Chipotle, Publix, and Nordstrom are the best career opportunities for someone with the highest level of education being high school; Costco being the best, and the others all tying for second. Costco is the company I would choose because there is room to move up in the business regardless of the level of education I have. I would have the chance to become a manager even though I started by working the registers or the floor. And I would also have some kind of coverage and a steady income.

  12. The reason why these companies are being chosen as the "best" companies for high school graduates to be employees of is because, statistically, these companies tend to pay more than other companies, have more benefits than other companies, have more upward mobility than other companies, and have more workers that tend to stay at their company per year than other companies. Costco is reported to have 9 out of 10 employees who have heath care benefits. Costco pays well over the minimum wage to its employees. Also, more than 70% of Costco's warehouse managers began there career working on the floor or as a cashier, which displays the high upward mobility of Costco's employees. In addition, Costco's annual turnover rate in less than 6%, showing that its employees tend to "stick" with their jobs. These are the reasons why Costco is ranked as the best job for those without college degrees.
The company that I would choose to work for, assuming that I did not have a high school diploma, would be Costco. This is so because it pays more than other companies tend to pay its employees who do not have high school diplomas. Costco also seems to offer its employees more health benefits than other companies do, and is another reason why I would choose to work for Costco. Also, I would have a grater chance of rising through the ranks, through promotions, than I would at any other company that does not require a high school diploma.

  13. These companies are being chosen as "best" companies for whom to work for because of how they treat their employees, how they leave room for their employees to grow in the company, and company-sponsored health care. Also, these companies pay above the minimum wage. All of these are benefits for those high school graduates because they don't usually get as much pay, or advance their career as much. Although these jobs are good, they shouldn't be permanent; high school graduates should invest in an undergraduate degree.
The company that I would choose to work for, assuming that I did not have a high school diploma, would be Chipotle because I refuse to pay $7.20 for a steak burrito.

  14. These companies being chosen as "best" companies for whom to work because they have a huge reputation of treating its workers well and providing room to grow within the company, and without having a high school diploma Costco pays you above the minimum wage. Also, Costco provides you with a great health care. Costco, from my point of view, treats their costumers with well respect and honor and there is not one person whom has been working there has ever complained about the works system. Costco has a ranked number of one in the Glass door's ranking all because of the employees whose highest level of education was high school or doesn't have a high school diploma. The company that I would choose to work for assuming if I did not have a high school diploma would have to be Costco. I chose Costco because I love serving and helping out costumers with whatever that want and need. Making a costumer happy makes my day, and there's nothing more better than that to do because they would've done the same for you. Even though you do not have a high school diploma, the company and the people with treat you the same as the other employees whose working there and basically Costco takes good care of you. Furthermore, 9 out of 10 employees have company-sponsored health care and the pay is much higher than Wal-Mart or Sam's Club. Meanwhile, 70 percent of Costco's warehouse managers began their careers working on the floor or behind the registers and if I work there I can work my way up to become a manager because anyone that works at Costco sticks to their jobs, and the annual employee turnover rate is less than 6% .

These companies are being chosen as the "best" companies to work for without a high school diploma because of the benefits that they provide and how they pay their employees. Working at these places allows the employees room to grow financially and personally with being able to associate wit many different people throughout the day. If i were to choose between the two, I would prefer to work at Whole Foods because I have an extensive background in cooking and i prefer to eat healthy and "whole" foods.

  16. Education matters the most, regardless where you're living. Costco ranked number one on the list because according to the statistics, the employees are paid well, satisfied at work, and are given many opportunities to make their lives more comfortable. However, these results only came out based on the reviews that the employees of each company submitted, which means, out there there would be small companies that pay their workers even better, and more happy at work than Costco. If I were to choose to work at one of these companies, I would prefer Apple, simply because I am fond of the computer software and enjoy helping others with computer issues.

  17. These companies are deemed best for people who graduated high school but for some reason is not attending/attended college. Costco is ranked as #1 for many reasons, here are a few.
Employees have great benefits. One 59-year-old worker who has been there for 26 years makes $52,700 a year, gets five weeks of vacation and has a nice 401k that Costco fills in with matching funds. About 88% of employees have health insurance from the company, and the medical plans offer great coverage.
.They pay better than their competitors. Costco employees are paid well. Hourly workers make an average of $20.89 an hour. Compare that with Wal-Mart, which pays an average of $12.67 an hour.Low turnover rate ; The turnover rate is only 5% for employees who have been there for more than a year. Even though I'm a consumer of most of the companies in the top 10, if I were to ever choose a place to work I'd take Costco and Nordstrom into consideration. Costco for the many benefits and decent pay, and Nordstrom because I like the environment.

  18. Finding a job when you only have a high school diploma is not an easy task. Many jobs either will not hire you, or the income and benefits are not very high. According to the Huffington post, if you have not attended college, and graduated from high school, Costco would be the best career for you to have. There are many key factors as to why Costco was chosen as the "best" place for high school graduate to work at. Costco not only treats there workers in a respectful manner, but they also pay their staff above minimum wage. Costco's CEO and President Craig Jelinek are both an advocate in increasing the national minimum wage. This is extremely beneficial for students that only have a high school diploma. This will allow them to increase their income to help them succeed in the future. I believe that it is extremely smart to treat your staff with generosity also. If you treat your staff with generosity, it will allow them to be happier with going to work which leads to them being cooperative and helpful with the customers. This will increase the amount of customers shopping at the store and help the store out in the long run. Not only does Costco treat their employees with respect, but they also allow them benefits. Costco provides their workers with healthcare and is continuously increasing the chance for their workers to become managers of their stores. This is beneficial to the staff that have a high school diploma because it gives them the opportunity to increase their income on some of the necessities in life such as hygiene products and food. Although Costco is listed as the number one place for high school graduates to work at, Whole Foods, Chipotle, Publix and Nordstroms are not very far behind. If I did not have a high school diploma, I would be most interested in working for Costco. The benefits that they give to their staff is incredible for someone that does not have a high school diploma. They also are continuously paying above minimum wage which would help assist me to gain income easier. If I was unable to work for Costco, I would try Starbucks. Starbucks not only pays above minimum wage as well, but they also give you a college education. This can help me go to school without paying for it so that I can focus on spending my income on other things.

  19. These jobs are considered best for High school graduates because of the good pay over minimum wage vs somewhere like mcdonalds. they also have good benefits like company sponsored healthcare. Also in Costco, there are always promotions where workers will start out as cashiers and end up at a higher position like manager. If i had to choose, i would work at Costco because it has the best ranking and acquire all the benefits i stated above.

  20. Now more than ever you often need a college degree to even consider having a job that gives you a good salary and benefits. According to the article, "Those who only attended high school are increasingly more likely to be unemployed, earn less, live in poverty, and be less satisfied at work.." This list of ten, is chosen as the "best" companies to work for due to their pay well above minimum wage, the sponsored health care, and the ability to move up in the ranks within the company. When comparing other well known companies such as Sam's Club and Wal-Mart, the potential for their workers is no where near these ten listed companies standards. Assuming I did not have a high school degree, the company i would choose to work for would be Nordstrom. Nordstrom came in second after Costco so the benefits and salary are still better than most. I would chose Nordstrom over Costco because it is more of the retail environment I would rather be placed in, and I would probably be more content.

  21. These company's have a reputation on treating their workers better. Their workers are promised higher pay and benefits. For example they are givin health care and the opportunity to become more within the company with out furthering their education. If I had to chose where to work and I didn't have a diploma I would chose whole foods because I work in a grocery store so i am already aware of how to use a register, find and put back objects And I no how to bag items. They also provide a lot of benefits and the pay is really impressive considering it's just a grocery store.

  22. These companies are chosen as the “best” for people to work at from various factors. For starters, they pay well over the minimum wage mark, which can only help to benefit them in the long run. It’s not easy to become successful in your future only earning minimum wage, especially if you’d like to start a family, buy a house, etc. But, receiving more than the minimum can help you achieve those goals, and make them more of a reality. Aside from this, Costco was also chosen the “best” company to work at as a high school graduate because of its healthcare policies. Every worker at Costco receives healthcare, which is a huge bonus to them, especially if they couldn’t afford it on their own. If I didn’t have a high school diploma, I would like to work at either Chipotle or Starbucks because of the pay they give their workers, and the education advantages the workers can receive. At Starbucks, they give you a college education, which can drastically help someone go to school without paying for it, and will give them the ability to spend their income on other things, such as bills.

  23. These companies are chosen as the "best" companies to work at as a high school grad because they pay well and consider their employees higher than other companies do. Walmart pays minimum wage and does not have as much benefits as the companies like Costco, Publix, Starbucks and Chipotle. These companies pay above national minimum wage and have health care benefits for their workers. If the employees are happy with the respect and consideration shown to them, they will most likely treat the customers better which will in turn give that company more business. Considering that I am not yet a high school grad, i would want to work at Chipotle or Starbucks because those are two great businesses that are likely to remain in good business for a long time.

  24. I believe these companies are chosen as the "best" because of the way they treat there employees and the fact that they pay above the average minimum wage. Companies that are considered the best, such as Costco, give benefits to the employees working there. For example you are given health care and you can move up in the company. Most people only have a high school diploma and companies like these will hire you. If I had to pick a companies with only a HS diploma I would choose Whole Foods. I like what the company stands for in the terms of healthy food. I also would appreciate the benefits that they offer as well.

  25. These companies are chosen as the "best" because of the way they treat their employees. Companies like Chipotle and Costco pay more than the national wage(paid living wage)and also provide health care benefits unlike companies like Walmart who pay minimum wage and has absolutely no benefits. People who work for Walmart have to work for more than just that 1 job and a lot of them still have to depend on Welfare. Companies such as Starbucks offer their employees free college. Although there are some regulations on this free college, such as it is an online college and that is the only college they offer for free. But it is still a chance to pursue a career you may want in the future. When you have companies that treat there employees well then these people are happy to go to work and they respect the customers. People are more likely to return to businesses that have happy workers. If I did not have a High School diploma, I would want to work for Chipotle because I feel that Starbucks will be around for along time so I would have a more secure job. Also they have good benefits to their employees.

  26. High school graduates who don't go on to college always carry the risk of not getting a well paying job. These companies like Costco, Chipotle, Publix and Whole Foods, create opportunites for employees to excel in their business. After working for almost 2 years at Chipotle, I have seen my co-workers who have not gone to college, become managers and make a larger pay check. These companies care about their employees and want to train them and reward them for contributing to the company. If I did not go on to college, I would work at Nordstrom. Not only do you start over minimum wage but you also make commission.

  27. These companies are being chosen as best because of places like Costco where employes are given healthcare increase wadge depending on the amount of time the person works there I feel as though it would be very beneficial for some people because the company makes sure the employes are taken care of and with them getting all the benefits it makes the employes happy and brings more profit to the company because everyone wants to be around a positive person I did not have a high school diploma I would work at Starbucks because they offer their employes collage education for free and it would be beneficial in The long run helping me get a better career.

  33. The top ten companies being labled as quote and quote the best companies are getting an edge by young adults either still or fresh out of high school because they focus on employee satisfaction. As must people will tell you finding a job these days is hard even harder if you haven't been to college. With a place like Costco they welcome you with open arms with a higher pay then the minimum wage! People who are down on their luck and can't afford college or whatever the reason has a place to work and build a career with good wages, healthcare, and not have a super high standard they require you to work. What teenager or young adult would say no to that. It truly show case other money hungry corparations like Wal-mart who pays less than minimum wages sometimes and gets away with it. I wouln't want to work at Costco only because I have other plans in mind with my life and career path and if I worked their I might be tempted to stay. With an annual employee turnout rate of less than 6% they must be good, but playing the hipothetcal game.... I would pick Apple since they have a high career rates meaning I might get exposed to high tech matarials which I could use in this world that is so Technology heavy and use it to better my life/career.

  34. Costco and these other companies are being called the “best” companies to work for because they have benefits that are much better than other companies. Costco employers say that the company treats them well and, the workers are able to make a decent living working for Costco. Workers in Costco are paid higher than the usual minimum wage; the CEO is an advocate for bigger wages. Some of these companies provide health care plans that actually take care of the person. Costco health care plans cover much more than Walmart or Sam’s club. Some companies are willing to pay high school graduates there college tuition. In Starbucks, high school graduates have the option where Starbucks will pay for their college tuition. If I had to choose one of these companies to work, I would work for Costco. Out of every company in the list company, Costco is the number one place to work for. There is a Costco near my home so it’s convenient for me for traveling purposes. The best aspect about working for Costco is they pay, if I lose some hours, at least I can make a good amount of money working with the time I got.

  35. These companies have been chosen as the "best" companies for whom to work for because of their many benefits and treatments of their customers. Costco, the main focus of this article, for example pays it's employees much more than the average minimum wage, and also provides it's employees with health insurance. This in return causes employees to stay for much longer than say if they worked for Wal-mart. Companies like Costco become a reliable and dependable place to work for and so they get a reputation of one. Assuming I did not have a high school diploma, I would with out a doubt chose to work for Costco with it's health insurance and care for it's employees I don't see who wouldn't.

  36. These companies were chosen as "best" companies for whom to work because they have payment well over the minimum wage. About 90% of the employees who work for these companies have company-sponsored health care. For undergraduates, this would definitely be the best option since they could work less and gain more. If they wanted even more money, they could probably get a second job at another one of these companies on the list. As spoken about in class, Wal-Mart officials don't care to make their employees' wages higher because that means the officials would get more money. The Costco CEO and president is an advocate for raising the national minimum wage.

Assuming I did not have a high school diploma, I would most definitely work at Chipotle for quite some time. First off, I'm pretty sure that about half of my paychecks that I get now go towards Chipotle, and I could get free food if I work there. Second, Chipotle would most likely give better pay than what I am receiving presently. Third, I would save a ton of cash for savings and other expenses since I'll be spending a lot less money on food at Chipotle.

  37. Maybe if times got rough, Costco would seem okay cause you get 15/hr. As for how publix is even on this list is mind blowing to me. To be honest if I didn't get a diploma, Id probably sell... stuff.. and save up enough money to get into the flipping business. Buying cars, upgrading them and selling them for more. Once I got like 50K id take a loan out for another 50K and buy a house that's in foreclosure and try to flip it. Id then call TLC and tell them that im an 18 year old house, car flipper, who has no education and that I've made 50K without a diploma. They would give me a show called "Budget Flip" and it would become very popular, and id make 50K an episode. Id buy my mom a G-Class and pay off her debt. Then id find Ms. Meachum and pay off all her debts, and send her on a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas. No matter what life throws at me. I WILL BE RICH!

  38. These companies are chosen as best companies to work in only for people who have high school diplomas because they have proven to treat their employees with benefits such as health care and college education. If I only had my high school diploma, I would probably work at Wells Fargo. I know there aren't many benefits, but I know I can start off as a bank teller and from there get promoted and start a career as a financial analysts. By doing so, I will earn a higher salary, and will have more opportunities than a person working at Costco as a cashier. Many people who don't receive health insurance, will chose working at Costco will is top choice right now as statistics have shown in the article. I think that it all depends on the person's lifestyle and how they will accommodate themselves, whether it is economically and socially.

  39. These companies are considered the "best" companies because of the treatment of their workers, and the benefits they give them. A worker who is paid minimum or below, with no benefits, and can't even afford to live on their own, are not going to be happy. When workers are happy it shows in their work. Customers are more likely to spend their money in an environment that is comfortable, efficient, and productive. I'm sure the difference in social skills between Walmart and Costco workers wouldn't be surprising if you looked at their wages.
If I decide not to get my high school diploma and needed a job to support myself I would choose Costco. I wouldn't choose it just for the pay, but for the benefits and the fact that I could move up in the company. I have someone in my family that lied about his age and only had a high school diploma, who work his way up in his job with Costco and now he is making enough to support his family of 4.

  40. These companies are chosen as the "best" to work for if you have a high school diploma is because they have a payment that far exceeds minimum wage, such as Costco. They know how to treat their employees and have great health care benefits. Costco also knows how to treat there costumers. But assuming that I didn't have a school diploma I would want to work at Costco because of their high pay rate and the health care benefits that they give. I would also like to work at Starbucks because they pay for your college.

  41. These companies are referred to as the "best" due to their employee pay rates and other benefits such as healthcare and high chances of moving up in the job compared to other companies. If I had nothing more than a high school diploma, I would choose to work at Whole Foods; it may not be ranked number one with Costco but I always try to promote a healthy lifestyle and working there would only aid me in my continuing eating healthy as well as helping others eat healthy.

  42. Mediocre jobs are for mediocre people with mediocre dreams. If you want to a bag boy at pub lix all your life nobody can tell you otherwise but you must want to live in a box and and plan to have no future because that's what follows if you choose that path. In this day and age you simply cannot go through life with those kind of dreams and you have no choice but to go to college to make something out of your self. Some people are fine with a payment like $15 and hour but Im sure I would not be. Some people are born to be millionaire's and some even billionaire's and if you want a lavish lifestyle of that nature you should be laughing while reading that article. As crazy as some of the students think Jason's response is you have to respect the determination. If any of you know Jason like I do that is not a crazy response for him by any means and it is a pretty intelligent one if you ask me. For all those out there that decided not to go to college it isn't over for you yet but understand your odds of having a successful life have plummeted.

  43. These companies are referred to as the "best" companies to work because they one pay their employees well and they have benefits also. Who wouldn't want a job like Costco if they only graduated from high school, obviously it doesn't compare to a real career but it's still better than what other jobs pay. If I had to chose what one of the following jobs I would pick Costco because it is number one so it seems like the better job. They pay good which is really important because the money is very much needed in our economy and it doesn't seem like a hard place to work at. I feel like its always best to get through high school especially after all the years already done. These jobs are good but its never good to settle for less.

  44. Costco was chosen to be the “best” company to work for as a high school graduate because they otreat their employees well and they also pay above the national minimum wage. Also 9/10 employees that work at Costco are provided with health care. Also less than 6% of their employees are annually replaced by other people. Whole Foods, Chipotle, Publix and Nordstrom are all tied for second place. Each of these companies treats their employees well by paying above the minimum wage. These companies are treating their employees to make their company name look better. Out of the list, I would want to work for Costco because they care for their employee’s happiness and success rate.

  45. The companies discussed were chosen as the "best" companies to work for, having only a high school diploma because of their benefits and pay. Competition for jobs is extremely competitive and 99% of the time having a college degree sets you above someone without one. The jobs listed pay well above minimum wage and provide health care as well as the ability to rank up in positions to their employees. If I only had a high school diploma I would most defiantly choose to work for Costco. Costco pays well, gives health care and more importantly it gives employees the opportunity to promote their position in the company.

  46. These companies have great success with their employees because they pay them above minimum wage and give them the benefits that are needed in today's society. My friends parents worked at Costco when they were younger and they claim that the managers are very friendly and treat you with the respect you deserve. If i were to not get my high school diploma i would have to pick Costco due to the great reputation they have with their young employees. Also since they are the highest ranking in the article we read, i must assume they are doing something right to have their employees feel great for working for their company.

  48. High school graduates who don’t go off to college run the risk of running into poverty obviously a lot faster than students in college. These companies are chosen as the “best” due to the way their employees are treated. Companies such as Costco allow employees to move up faster in the system, with or without a high school diploma. They also provide company sponsored healthcare and higher than minimum wage. Also, less than 6% of their employees are annually replaced by other employees. So if worst comes to worst I would chose to work at Costco if I only had a high school diploma because of all the benefits they provide. Also the success and happiness the employees seem to be finding in the company.

  49. These companies are being chosen as the best because the employees are actually satisfied with their job. They are giving good reviews on Glassdoors about the companies they work for. These companies are treating their employees well and are also getting health care and are getting paid well above minimum wage. When workers enjoy their job and are satisfied they are more likely to stay there for a longer time. Some companies id work for assuming I don't have a high school diploma would have to be Whole Foods, Chipotle, Publix, and Starbucks. Knowing that these companies are more open minded to hire high school students giving me a chance to actually get hired. Also these companies are on the top ten companies for career opportunities. I would treated well and may be able to get health care benefit. And hopefully also get paid a little above minimum wage.

  50. These companies are being chosen as "best" companies to work for because of how they treat their employees, how they make room for their employees to grow in the company, and they give them company-sponsored health care. If I were to choose a company to work for it would have to be either Costco or Apple. I would choose Costco because of all the benefits that the company offers. I think it would be a great place to work for and I would feel happy and comfortable. It is very important to love where you work because if you love where you work than it won’t feel like a drag to go into work everyday. I would also consider working at Apple because there would be a lot of opportunities there to learn the products and meet new people every day. However, I do find it shocking that you do not need a college diploma to work there.

  51. These companies are being chosen as "best" companies for whom to work for because of how well the employees are being treated. They are being paid above minimum wage, they get company sponsored health care, and are getting paid much higher than industry peers. If I were to choose a company to work at after how school, I would choose Costco because of all the good benefits they offer.

  52. The companies from the article are considered the "best" due to the convenience and positive opportunities that each job presents. The jobs on this list treat their employees with respect, they pay well, and they're is growth within the company. If I were to choose from this list, I'd choose Costco because they're at the top of the list, and they seem like they can help me out more than the other companies.

  53. Very few jobs which don't require a high school diploma include a decent salary and very few health benefits. So it did not come to a surprise to me that the jobs desired by people currently would be the jobs which go above and beyond to treat their employees well. Right now a large majority of people struggle to provide for themselves or even more direly, their family. Jobs like Costco, Chipotle, Publix, etc. recognize the need for money but also see the necessity for security. As it becomes harder to acquire a college degree due to increasing finances, jobs like these will become more popular. If I was able to receive my high school diploma I would want to work for Costco because it was chosen as number 1 for several reasons. The main one being that I know I could still support myself and have decent health benefits.

  55. Nordstrom, Chipotle, Whole Foods, Costco, & Publix are the best companies for high school grads to work for. On a career site called Glassdoor, employees for these companies rated their employers placing Costco first on the list. Costco has earned a reputation of treating its workers well and providing room to grow within the company. They also pay their employees WELL above minimum wages despite their average education achievement. For that reason, Costco were ranked number one on the survey. Had I only succeeded in earning a high school diploma I would choose to be an employee at Nordstrom. Nordstrom has to be one of my favorite stores to shop in so having access to all of the latest trends & great sales before those on the outside world would be pretty awesome. I wouldn't only choose to work at Nordstrom for the perks, but also because I've noticed that every employee on the floor when I visit has a smile on their face & seem happy to have their job. Unlike McDonalds or another fast food restaurant that underplays and treats their employees like crap. The positive attitudes I received from the employees at Nordstrom showed me that they're well paid, & well treated. Which is what I'd be looking for in the event that I sold myself short by only receiving a high school diploma.

  56. The companies from the article are considered the "best" companies simply because their beneficiaries out weighs any other competing company. Costco provides their workers wages above the minimum wage and company-sponsored healthcare. Even I would want to work for Costco because I would reap benefits that other companies do not provide. Wal-Mart, who's global sales broke $400 billion last year, provide their workers very little in comparison. Compared to Wal-Mart, Costco demonstrates more care for their employees, and missing that opportunity working under Costco without a high school diploma may put me way under the poverty line.

  57. These companies are chosen as "best" companies to work at, because they provide many "career opportunities" for employees whose highest level of education was high school. Most of these corporations share a high regard for their workers for instance, more than 70 percent of Costco's warehouse managers began their careers working the floor or the register. These big companies pay their employees well above the minimum wage, and Costco CEO and President Craig Jelinken has been advocate to raise national minimum wage, these industries are very considerate of what they contribute to employees. If I had to choose a company to work for which did not require from me a high school diploma, I would strive for Costco since the company provides a company sponsored health care and pay much higher than some other companies.

  58. I completely agree with this list. I have heard amazing things about working at all of these places and I personally have never had a bad experience with them. It seems to me that these companies have not only been created to serve the community of its services, but to also cater to those who haven't gone past their high school diplomacy. This topic is specifically important to me because my sister (who only has her GED) has been working at whole foods for over 5 years now. She says she loves it. She gets treated great and the pay is doable as well. In the case that I do not achieve anything past a high school diploma, i would be stupid to not look into either Costco, Whole Foods, or Chipotle (all companies I love and show my support to).

  59. These companies are being chosen as "best" companies to work at because of all the benefits they come with. For example, they come with health insurance and they even pay higher than minimum wage. They also treat their employees with a lot of respect. I work at Publix and it literally is like working with family. Assuming I did not have a high school diploma, I would continue to work for Publix or I would work for at Costco. The reasons why I would work at Publix are because Publix stock is owned only by the employees. Publix also comes with many benefits. These companies allow you to grow even if you don't have a high school diploma and I think that is awesome. There is a manager at my store who is only 23. That's pretty young to be a manager. I've always heard good things about Costco.

  60. These companies are being chosen as the "best" companies to seek employment because of how well they treat their employees. Costco pays their workers more than the average minimum wage and allows them room to grow and make their way up the ranks of the company. Instead of being a cashier for the rest of their working career there, they can become managers, supervisors. Publix, also, treats their employees well. After an amount of time working for them, the employees get to own stock in Publix, a private company. Also, these companies take care of their employees providing health care, and social stability. If I didn't have a HS diploma, I would work at Publix. Mainly because it's the closest of the 11 to where I live. I personally know a woman who worked at Publix for about 10 years, starting as a cashier and working her way up to the "big guys" and safe to say, she and her family are well off right now, so that's a bit a booster. And I know that Publix provides scholarships so if I ever, hypothetically, went back to continue/resume my education, I could be granted a scholarship from them.

  61. These companies are chosen as the "best" companies for a job due to the ways they treat their employees. These jobs tend to pay well and their employees are happy with their income from them that they don't want to leave. Their employees also tend to get full benefits from these companies and you can normally work your way up in these companies and not be stuck in one position for many years.
If I only had my high school diploma I would want to either work at Costco or Starbucks. Costco treats their employees very well and has full benefits and Starbucks also treats their employees well and they get full benefits as well as a college degree through a certain program with them.

  62. These companies have been chosen among the best for high school graduated because they treat their employees well, offer health care, and have low turnover rate. It is great that there are alternatives for people who do not plan on college. I would probably work for Costco if I needed a job because it is ranked number one and I have heard great things about the company. As mentioned in the article, the value of a college degree has gone down. If college is not your choice then there are definitely other options that can allow you I sustain yourself. These companies have been chosen among the best for high school graduated because they treat their employees well, offer health care, and have low turnover rate. 63. I believe these companies are rated best for high school graduates, because while they aren't the most sophisticated jobs, they are well paying companies, and their employees are happy working there. Also they have low turnover rates, their employees stay for a while, with Costco being a top example. I would choose Costco as a high school graduate, because they have a great reputation for being if great value to their employees.

  65. The reason why these companies are being chosen as "best" companies for whom to work for is because they treat their employees the way they are suppose to be treated. They pay above the minimum wage, provide health care, and pay much higher than Sam's Club. I would want to work at Costco if I didn't have a high school diploma because they treat their workers really good. They are also number one on the list so that means it is the best place to work at from the rest.

  66. I believe these companies are being chosen as "best" because of the way they value their employees. I think for whom they are best for would be for the people whose highest level of education was high school, costco for example is a good place for people who only finished high school ; because they offer room to grow within the company for one, the company pays well above minimum wage , have company sponsored health care, and pay is much higher than industry peers. The company I would work for assuming I didn't have a high school diploma would be publix because they pay well, get paid every week, and get fenomenal benefits .

  67. the reason these companies are on the top 10 list because the high school grad employees seem to be valued much more than other employees at other companies such as Wal-Mart. As they get paid well above minimum wage and get healthcare considering they have only a high school diploma and nothing else. I would work for Publix because it dosen't take much skills or knowledge to work there and they are chosen on the top 10 list.

  68. Costco was chosen to be the “best” company to work for as a high school graduate because they not only treat their employees well but, they also pay above the national minimum wage. Also that costco are well aware of this and treating their employees well will make their company name look better. Nine out of ten employees that work at Costco are provided with a form of health care . I would want to work there for the fact that the environment is so friendly and the employees are being. Treated so well.
