The Government Shutown Trickle-Down

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/07/government-shutdown-effects_n_4060926.html. Due 14 Oct 2013. What do you think about this partial list?? Can we do without all the items on this list?? Should we make the list permanent?? Name 3 items on this list that you would NOT cut.....

  1. This is very sad and depressing. We cannot do without all the items on this list because most of them involved our health and our well-being. This list should never be permanent. The Government shutdown is affecting/hurting way too many people. I don't think any of these items should be cut but 3 important ones that I would not cut are: 1) Payments to needy families 2) Medicare program 3) Pig virus monitoring
No one expected this, that's why this chaos is happening. No one planned ahead. It's just sad how people are extremely affected by the shutdown because the Federal Government is very involved in our lives. I am thinking things are only getting worse. Some changes have to be made. I don't see any way out otherwise :/

  2. Having a list like this is very disappointing. Most items on the list are involving our safety and health, and the fact that the shutdown is making us decide on it is disgusting. We need to learn how to fix this shutdown before it creates real problems. Three items on the list that I would not cut would be: medicare being delayed, NASA websites being shutdown, and border patrol being cancelled in New Mexico. All three of these help Americans live safely and to be aware of their surroundings and to cut these off will only make it harder to move forward after we resolve this shutdown.

  3. I did not expect there to be such a list that has some life-threatening situations that the government "can't" help with. This proves that the government does not care about its people; they only care for themselves. We should not make that list permanent, but we can do without some of the unnecessary things that we can live without. Unfortunately, the payments to 5,200 families eligible for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the fact that the federal investigators can't inspect a fatal accident, and that some Native American communities are seeing nutrition programs, foster care payments, financial assistance for the poor and anti-elder-abuse programs cut, is ridiculous! I believe that those should not be cut. Why can't we just help others, regardless of who we work for.

  4. Having such a big list like, the one we have is very sad and disappointing, there is many life-threatening things that can happen because of this. All the list shows is that the Government truly does not give a bit of care for us. This affects are health and how we live, not only as an individual but our families. The ways things are going, it seems that things will only be getting worse.

  5. This list is very discouraging. A lot of the items on the list affect many lives all over the country. We could most likely not do without all of the items on the list, so we should not make the list permanent. Three things I would not cut are the viruses not being monitored, medicare program being delayed, and Arizona stopping payments to families in need. Many people will be affected greatly due to some of the items on the list, which will cause uncertainty and fear for many Americans.

  6. I think the list clearly demonstrates how the actions of a few can affect many. Even though only fifty things were listed, there are many other negative effects of this government shutdown that were not listed. I do not believe that any of them should be permanent. Each program and service affects the lives of many people, especially those who are in tough times. Three items on the list that I would not cut, would be Medicare being delayed, NASA websites being shut down, and pig virus monitoring was stopped. I believe that those are the most important ones because it affects the health and safety of many Americans.

  7. The list contains many things that is crucial for us, and that is not all there are many more that were not listed. We should not make this list permanent because we can't do without many things on the list. There are many of the things listed that I wouldn't cut but here are three. First, Medicare, foster care payments , and pig virus monitoring. Why couldn't the government care about the citizens of America and not worry about the money that they wish to make, after all their is a reason why they are part of the government.

  8. This list is so so unexpected and disappointing. The government only cares about itself, no matter how many programs they try to create for us. Items on this list affect our health and security and we cannot do without them. This list should not be permanent. Even being temporary, it can hurt us deeply in the long run. The fact that Medicare is being delayed, farmers are having trouble growing food for us, and people at the CDC are growing frightened, affects everyone greatly. We cannot afford the government to be shutdown.

  9. The list depicted in the news article shows the affects of the government shutdown. Many of the items in the list were a surprise for me and increased great worry for my family and the future generation of the world. The fact that it is a PARTIAL list, scares me the most. We cannot do without most, if not all, of the items in this list. We need the Centers for Disease Control to keep regulating our products. We need the help of Medicare to ensure the safety and health of our families. And we need farms up and working in order to get food and other products to our society. This list should not become permanent simply because if it does, the well-being of our families and future families will be at stake.

  10. The list includes many important or helpful services that are needed by many people. It is even further shocking that it isn't even a full list of places affected due to the government shutdown. There are some items that we just cannot go without such as children in Tennessee not being able to get to school because the bus cannot make the route to school due to the Great Smoky Mountains being closed, and a health care clinic not being able to take new patients due to no help from government. Furthermore, the government shutdown is affecting many different people and is putting many people in a bad situation.

  11. I think this partial list is a list of things that certian people need to make a living. The shutdown is affecting a lot of people and things. We can't do without all the items on this list, so we shouldn't make the list permanent. One of the items on this list that really caught my eye was Number 41 "Children in Tennessee couldn't ride the bus to school. "Since the Great Smoky Mountains are closed, along with a number of roads overseen by rangers, a some parents had to find another way to get their children to class. During the government shutdown, Bus #49 could not make its route." Children can't attend school because of this shutdown. How is this fair to them? What did they do wrong? Nothing, they shouldn't be punished for this. Also a boy was denied a blood test, its coming to a point where its effecting our health. Veterans, people who have helped our country and or helping our country are not getting their federal insitution assistance. They did their dues and should be rewarded for it. This shouldn't be taken away from them, and should not be cut.

  12. This list is very disheartening. it aggravates me that, because of a small group of people all this nonsense is happening. I think this list is quite sad I defiantly don't think it should be permanent. 3 items that i wouldn't cut are: 1) "Arizona Temporary Assistance for Needy Families" 2) Medicare programs 3) Lack of info for farmers

  13. This has got to be the worst thing to happen in American in this 2013 year, i personal have two uncles who work for the federal government are now out of a job but lucky for them they wives work so they have income coming into the house. But what if they wives didn't or couldn't work that would a lot of stress from them to figure how to make ends meet, and to see all thing this that are effected by this shutdown is really sad, but the people who decided to have this shut down are still getting paid and have no care in the world if they don't fix this the shut down just might be the thing to send America in a Depression yet again.

  14. The fact that the shutdown is causing people in need to not having shelter or support is depressing. It's ruining people that are in danger and people in need. peoples businesses are in jeopardy with this shutdown. Government may have thought that this shutdown wo9uldve helped us but its just making things worse. what about the hurricane that can't be tracked down cause news crews aren't getting paid how are we suppose to know to prepare and find shelter? how are we to know if it's a category 5 or 6?

  16. The continuation of the government shutdown is ridiculous and just sad. Congress is damaging the lives of families just because they can. The list of organizations and businesses affected is extremely long. There are something's that can be put on hold but there are other things that are extremely important but to congress it must mean nothing. I feel as we can not go without government financial assistance, federal court cases, or anything that's health related. Whether it's the Medicare plan going into effect or medical research. Those things change how we live day by day.

  17. The list given in the article posted is depressing. The fact that the government being shut down is affecting our safety and heath is ridiculous, the shutdown was for childish reasons which our government did not consider. An example of how its affecting our safety is in number one of the list, there is nobody patrolling the border, cartels are so dangerous. Our federal owned safety units such as border patrol, DEA, and others shouldn't be affected, this is not benefiting us. I think that our safety is more important than the debt and troubles going on in the White House, we shouldn't be dragged into their problems. Three items that I wouldn't cut are Medicare Programs, assistance for families in need, and virus monitoring. Our safety and health should come before everything. Just because government officials are still getting paid and their health is still covered doesn't mean that they should just forget about the other millions of people.

  18. I think this partial list is very sad, unfair and depressing. One of the saddest thing about the list was losing that half of million dollars that could have helped or save a lot of people. With the money been gone no one can really count on it about it providing for battered women. We need everything that is on the list, especially medicare. We as people need to care for our health, our families and our children. The three most important items we cannot cut on the list are medicare, Incomes and people that are in shelters. Without Incomes people can't provide for their families. We need medicare to take care of our health, and the people that are in shelters needs necessities and should be able to provide for them.

  19. This goes to show you how much our government really cares at the end of the day. Its sad to know how a few can affect so many. Why must our government stand and see the cost of this shutdown really is and just let it happen. Its not the ones in office right now who are hurting, its the people who are really hurting the most. Many aren't getting paid. Without pay they cannot help support there families. This shutdown is really taking a toll on us and something needs to be negotiated as soon as possible so the people can get back on their feet.

  20. The only thing that can be done about this partial list is to get the government running again. We can do without all the items on this list, but it would degrade the quality of life in the United States. Many people would leave and return to their countries or other countries with better conditions. The list shouldn't be made permanent because issues will continue to develop, due to the lack of regulation and etc. There wouldn't just be those issues, but more issues dealing with jobs of thousands of others. Three items that shouldn't be cut, to me, are farm bills, delays in the Department of Justice, and how food trucks are losing business. Food is required by everyone and crime has to be dealt with sooner or later, but it is better to stop it sooner than later.

  21. To see a list that can name at least fifty things wrong with the government shut down, is a scary thing to think about. The government, and economy, can not survive without all these items that are listed. We need at least half of these companies and industries to survive throughout the year. With every passing day, this nation is losing a lot more money than they think. This list should absolutely not be permanent, if this were list were to be enforced, we would probably be looking at the next great depression. Many businesses would close down, more families would be out on the street, and the people of the cities would start to act out. Three things I would not cut would be an type of military programs, anything that deals with the medical areas, and programs that help struggling and poor families.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The fifty items on our list is not even the completed list. It states that it is only PARTIAL of what is on the list. This means there are a lot more problems that was not added to the list. First, the Republicans disapproved Obamacare. Now, there are 50 plus categories that has been greatly affected by the shut down.
Three items I would not cut is borderline patrol for Mexico, unemployment rate, and medicare being delayed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. some of the items listed that have been cut just baffles me. i mean why would you cut programs like N.A.S.A and the border portal. God forbid that an asteroid hit the earth and kill us all because we did not have time to prepare because the government is not funding N.A.S.A. And even Veterans who have dedicated there lives to protecting and mainlining the U.S are suffering. This has gone to far the U.S leaders are out of control they have to much power the government should fear the people not the other way around. Even a small town in Montana dependent on seasonal tourism has become a victim to the U.S government shutdown.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The 50 items on the list made me very uncomfortable. I honestly don't think we should make this list permanent just because of the fact that its not necessary. Many people need some of the items on the list to make a living. For example, the Pig virus monitoring, poor pigs are getting viruses and prob dying just because the gov. is shut down. that stops the farmers job from monitoring the virus, and kills the pigs. Displacing the wedding because it was in a National Park is ridiculous. 3 Items I wouldn't cut on this list would probably be, Medicare, Habitat for Humanity has been dealt a funding cut, and the unemployment rate.

  25. The govenment shutdown has caused many problems. A portion of them will not be resolved at the end of the government shutdown. For instance the Hotel that is on government property but is privately owned will probably only be able to revive itself as a company if it can get it's business going again. I believe it has gone long enough. Republicans have right to do what they want but they shouldn't disappoint their voters.I honestly hope the government shutdown ends soon

    ReplyDelete
  26. The list of fifty problems that is happening right now is only partial. I can not imagine the entire list that is affecting the country. The list is showing that our health and safety is at risk. We can not do with any of the items listed, they are all contributing to keep the country running as it should be. This list should not be made permanent. The things that I considered that should not be cut down is the Department of Justice being delayed in a National Security Agency case, the free health clinic in Alabama, and the studies for the Center of Disease Control and Prevention.

  27. Seeing and going through this list which is first off, way too long is disgusting. There are so many things that are put to halt just because of the government shutdown. Many of the services/companies and industries on this list are essential for the people and all for the economy. Every day that adds on to this shutdown the more money we are loosing and it is happening at a very very quick pace and its unbelievable. The fact that this is a partial list is even worse! We need most if not all of these industries for ourselves and for further generations. There are so many people effected by this shutdown that should not have to worry about meeting ends meet just because the government can't decide on something that is already a law for pete's sake! In no way at all should this list be permanent. 3 things I would not cut even though almost the whole list is important for the present and the future is number 18, 6 and 29.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The 50 items on the list are not even completed, and each and every items are very important for the well being of this country. The question is how much more significant are the remaining part of the list, and how will it affect us. So, these no reason for this list to be permanent. In order for things to be in the right pace the government needs to be open and in service, each day that passed the country is losing more money , we all know that nothing is barely improving in our economic system; with the shut down of the government it's gotten worst. How much work its going to take to recover,if we weren't at a decent pace even before the government was running. The first step is for the government to be running again, then they can start recovering from all the decrease in the economic system. The first thing that I wouldn't cut is the N.A.S.A, medicare programs and pig virus monitoring.

We need medicare to take care of our health, and the people that are in shelters needs necessities and should be able to provide for them.We just need to end this because it is doing nothing but hurting all of us as U.S. citizens.

  30. All of this that's happening is just sad. many families are being affected by this shutdown. this isn't something that should be going. the fact that the government is having us to choose between the items on the list is just sad because we all need those things. but the three items i wouldn't cut are medicare, pig virus monitoring, and assistance for families in need. this all needs to be solved as soon as possible, many people are being affected.

  31. I think it is sad to see a list like this, all of these things are important to someone and this should defiantly not be come permanent, Important things that We need to make sure dont, such as social security payouts,,programs that help meedy families, snd medicare.

  32. I think this partial list is awful. There are so many things on this list that are necessities and they aren't getting done because of the shutdown. I don't think we can do without the items on this list because a lot of them help families and individuals who are less fortunate. And many items on this list have to do with peoples' jobs. This list should not be permanent. I would not cut border patrol training in New Mexico, Veterans receiving their federal tuition assistance, and Arizona helping families with Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Going through this list was a very harsh reality check and almost a disgrace. A majority if these things that are listed involve our safety and health, and the fact that the shutdown is making us decide on it is disheartening. These problems needed to be fixed immediately before we create any larger problems than we already have in our country. Three items on the list that I would not cut would be: medicare being delayed, NASA websites being shutdown, and border patrol being cancelled in New Mexico. These three play a major role in helping Americans live safely and to be aware of their surroundings. If these were to be cut and removed, it would only make it harder to move forward after we resolve this shutdown.

  34. I think this list is sad and it makes me uncomfortable honesty. To know how much the act of few could affect so many inncent people. A lot of these business are really helpful to many people and their basic everyday life and for the government to cause so many to be close to either shutting down or having to fire people.this list should not be permanent that would cause so much struggle and pain to so many people. The 3 I would not cut is the free health care the disease control and the veteran and the farm bill. Simply because so many people need health care and can't afford as well as many people have life threatening diseases and doctors and scientists can't look into the cure because they don't have the money I also think the farm bill because when you think about how much dairy products are used daily and that the animals are used as food then the fact they can't produce the way the use to is going to hurt many people the list is full if things that people need because the government is acting childish they people are suffering.

  37. The partial list is outrageous and shocking. the fact that our government is willing to put all these factors at risk shows that we need to vote for better leaders in the future. they are obviously not affected because their lives don't depend on this list. But what about the rest of the population,us who really make this a nation? some items in the list are not crucial to our survival, but others are, thats why we shouldn't make this a permanent list. the programs that i would not cut are 1) medicare because everyone should have medicare because we need people to stay healthy so they can contribute to the economy. 2) Pig virus monitoring so we can help maintain our population healthy. we don't need our people to start dying or getting anymore diseases. 3) financial assistance for the poor because although it is not our fault that people are poor , we still need to help them, we can't let them die. I don't think that the republicans that are doing this realize or care about the rest of the population because we are the one who are paying the consequences of their actions. the worst is that no one was expecting this, and no one have a choice to get out of the situation, at least not the bottom 99%.

  38. This list is actually quite scary, and shocking. It's sad that our government is willing, and okay with putting all these factors at risk. We should not make this list permanent because it's not necessary. Majority of the items on the list are needed to make a living, but some can be put on hold, but unfortunately, to congress, they're just not important. We need government financial assistance, government health related programs, such as Medicare, as well as disease control.
